Game of the Week

GWENT: The Witcher Card Game

We’ve all been waiting for it since it was first launched for iOS back in October and, especially, since Netflix launched the series about The Witcher in December. That was probably the moment when the public discovered this amazing story. The Android version of GWENT: The Witcher combines both the storyline of the books and the game’s timelines - so, can it be any better? Clearly, this card deck game deserves to be our Game of the Week!

Although GWENT: The Witcher has been compared with other similar games, like Heartstone, we believe that this one proves a much faster pace (and we, patience-less players, love that). You’ll have to choose one faction out of six, including the old-school ones; like Northern Realms or the newest of them: The Syndicate. Each faction focuses on different themes, like ambush, numbers or resurrection.

But what we believe makes GWENT: The Witcher special is the neutral cards deck. Building your deck might seem very standard for this type of games, so the excitement here relies on what they call neutral cards. These will result in special effects when combined with your own faction cards and add to the strategy component we were looking for.

Matches are based in three turns and score, which means that to win you’ll need to get the highest score and draw a card in every turn. There’s a progression system in which you complete goals to unlock a currency. This will grant you access to different leaders for your faction. Seems quite complex for just a card deck game, right?

GWENT: The Witcher is connected to your GOG account which allows you to keep your progress and purchases that you may have on the PC or iOS version. It’s also a crossplay title that can be enjoyed in the other two mentioned platforms.

After CD Projekt Red announced they are shutting down the game for XBox and PS4, we can only be delighted they are betting on its Android version so we can enjoy a great mobile card deck game anywhere and everywhere. As always, tell us what you think in our social media channels!
