Is there a better way of starting the year? Our favorite franchise brings back these little creatures to the Android world with a well-known concept, MOBAs. Although the innovation provided by Pokémon GO is hard to replicate, we can see in Pokémon UNITE the potential to guarantee hours and hours of fun. Ready for our Game of the Week?
In Pokémon UNITE we’ll see two teams of 5 players facing each other on a map that will be familiar to most of us: two lanes, top and bottom, with 2 goal zones on each lane. You’ll start off in the game’s default map Remoat stadium in relatively short matches: 10 minutes. As expected in a Pokémon title, Trainers start by choosing their Pokémon from a roster of up to 23 of them. You’ll need to level up by killing wild creatures that pop around the map and evolve your favorite Pokémon by destroying your enemy’s goal zones. The fight is based on energy points called Aeos; once you score the amount required in your enemy’s goal zone, it’ll be destroyed and you will be the champion!
As with most Pokémon games, we can expect to see a lot of levels, categories, and options. In the case of Pokémon UNITE, we have 5 main categories (all-rounders, attackers, supporters, defenders and speedsters), and these are actually sub-divided into further two sub-categories: melee and ranged. Starting with 1 ability at the beginning of the game, your Pokémon will unlock new abilities as they reach new levels until number 9, on which they unlock the Pokémon’s Unite Move. On top of the abilities, you will also use held items, which are quite similar to the rune system in Wild Rift. These will boost your Pokémon performance and abilities. In terms of game modes, Pokémon UNITE brings three different ones: standard, ranked and quick. The latter is actually player in smaller maps of 4v4 battle format and lasts for 5 minutes, which makes it perfect for those impatient players that want the most fast-paced option!
Pokémon UNITE is not only another title of the Japanese franchise, but also a refreshing view on MOBAs. If you feel like jumping into a new Pokémon experience that keeps the catch’em all essence, download Pokémon UNITE now and let us know what you think on our social media channels.
