Game of the Week

Mario Kart Tour

It’s already been a while since it was initially launched, and there are many varied opinions about it out there. Although the controls may not be what we can expect from a Nintendo game, and in-app purchases can be quite annoying, the trip back to Rock Rock Mountain with our Italian friend makes it worthy. It's me, Mario Kart Tour, and I’m your Game of the Week!

Seeing Mario, Bowser and Princess Peach again are of course the best part of Mario Kart Race. Nintendo has managed to recreate our love and feeling for the staple characters, but this time they come kind of simplified. Not only the controls, but also in the graphics. It’s totally understandable, since we’re talking about an adaptation from console to mobile. Nothing to worry about too much, as you’ll still have your favorite power-ups like red shells and banana peels!

The controls have been a big controversy since this title was first released. You character will control the speed automatically and you will be in charge of steering and drifting by swiping and tapping on the screen. The problem is that we cannot help but compare it with the previous versions of Mario Kart that we’re used to. With Mario Kart Tour we don’t feel that same precision and control over our car, and that can be frustrating. The devs behind the game tried to compensate this with other features like gyro-handling or auto-item usage… but still feels funny. In it’s defense, we can say that, after playing Mario Kart Tour for a while, you kind of get used to the controls and they feel much more precise than on the first try.

We can all agree that Mario feels like part of the family at this stage and, isn’t that a good reason to give it a try? Enjoy the race and free to tell us your opinion (especially about the controls) in our social media channels!
