Game of the Week

Jackal Squad

It’s time for simplicity. We’re done with massive worlds of fantasy, deep stories and battling against people from all over the world. Our Game of the Week this time is all about having fun without the need for a PHD on characters and special skills; you’ll only need your thumb and some luck! Be ready for Jackal Squad!

The first thing we need to say about Jackal Squad is that it’ll take many of you to your childhood, since we’re talking about quite a legendary game from 1988. The mechanics are quite simple: a gun-style shoot’em up with classic graphics. Once you open Jackal Squad, you’ll jump directly into a tutorial that we’re actually not sure is needed. You’ll control the movement of a jeep in very short missions with just one finger. This vehicle shoots automatically so your goal is basically getting close enough to your enemies to shoot them while avoiding their bullets to stay alive. You collect coins and other perks on your way, and these can be used to upgrade the vehicle and the weapons as you progress in different levels.

Jackal Squad can seem a bit boring at the beginning; the first levels are way too easy. Once you arrive at level 4 or 5 you’ll see that achieving your goals is not such an easy task. Some items will appear on your path, like parachuters out of the blue (they are usually a lot at the same time) or chickens that keep the auto-shooting too entertained (does this prove the problems of AI?). The fact that you’re having fun only a few minutes after downloading it is quite refreshing in an Android gaming world that’s being taken by very console-like games. If we add the cute classic style of the graphics, the result is a very easily enjoyable game that for sure will kill some time.

Although a game that only requires directing a vehicle in the enemy’s territory might not seem very appealing, we believe Jackal Squad is one of those titles that once you try it, you’ll keep it installed and come back to it many times to have some casual fun. Give it a try and don’t forget to let us know what you think in our social media channels!
